This important meeting for the national medical and scientific panorama has the ingredient to become a mark as all the invited speakers are the national and International senior leaders/researchers/opinion makers in Pulmonary Hypertension in Europe bringing to the Faculty of Medicine of the Lisbon University a great moment of discussion that offer an unique opportunity for a postgraduate training in the field of pulmonary vascular disease and right heart failure.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a common and widely under-recognised hemodynamic condition that results from a surprisingly large number of disease processes. All age groups are affected with rapidly growing importance in elderly people, particularly in countries with ageing populations. In recent years we have come a long way in our understanding of PH. As a result of ever-increasing experience in treating pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic PH (CTEPH), and the availability of new treatment options, there have been continual improvements in patient outcomes.

Our Teaching Hospital integrates a national expert referral PH centre that provides care by a multiprofessional team with experience in pulmonary circulation and right heart failure, enabling the organization of a postgraduate course on PH. Clinical experts are invited to present an up-to-date overview on cutting edge PH therapies and best practice strategies in the evaluation and management of pulmonary vascular disease from early diagnosis, risk stratification and long-term surveillance. 

This postgraduate course is intended for cardiologists, pulmonologists, internists, rheumatologists and other affiliated healthcare professionals who are involved in the care of PH patients or have a special interest in this area.

• Describe the epidemiology and pathophysiology of PH.
• Determine who is at risk for PH.
• Correct clinical and hemodynamic diagnosis of PH.
• Recognize the difference between PAH and other PH forms.
• Evaluate current pharmacologic and percutaneous/surgical management strategies for patients with PH.
• Outline the current approach to PH treatment in the presence of comorbidities.
• Incorporate novel therapies into patient care for improved outcomes.
